Katie Miller began showing at age seven and has continued to carry that passion ever since. Her show career has been nothing short of eventful-from winning Overall American Royal Goat Showman to an incredible run this year. While, Kaite has enjoyed the long days in the barn her favorite days are the show days with some of her closest friends.
“Hello, my name is Katie Miller. I began showing livestock at age seven, and my journey in the show industry has been nothing short of eventful!”
Kaite started showing dairy goats at a young age, but it didn’t take her too long to realize that dairy goats were not the right fit. “At the age of eight, I purchased my very first Boer goat — and that decision sparked a passion that has carried me ever since.”
From there, Kaite fully immersed herself in the show goat circuit, and open shows.“ I dove into the show goat circuit, participating in open shows, meeting new people, and gradually learning the ropes.”
“Each step taught me something new, and as I continued to work hard, I began to see the results of my dedication. What started as a single goat has grown into a lifelong love for showing, learning, and connecting with others in this industry.”
Kaite has had an incredible show career. One memory that has stuck with her is winning Overall Goat Showman at the American Royal or winning the Doe Show at the 2024 North American. These were milestones for her, in and out of the ring. “A highlight would be winning Overall Goat Showman at the American Royal and Winning the Doe Show at the North American in 2024. These moments were not just victories — they were milestones that helped me establish my name in the show world.”
“I know I could never have achieved my dreams on my own. The unwavering support of my family and friends carried me through the highs and the lows, reminding me that success is sweeter when shared with those who stand beside you.”
Kaite wants to make a lasting difference in the show world. She hopes to encourage others to be involved and discover the incredible opportunities the show world has to offer.
“I especially want to help younger kids begin their own journey in the show world, just as I once did. Whether it’s offering guidance, sharing experiences, or simply being a source of encouragement, I want to ensure that the next generation feels welcomed, supported, and inspired to chase their dreams.”
Kaite has two changes she would like to make in this industry.
“I would like the show industry to eliminate politics and the restoration of integrity among judges and participants. The influence of politics must be removed to ensure an even playing field for everyone — because a name should never determine the banners you win.”
Politics and Restoration
For Katie it’s the people ringside that has made her show journey so enjoyable. From the laughs to the memories. The bonds created will always stick with Katie.
“My favorite part of showing goats isn’t just the time spent in the ring — it’s the friendships and relationships built along the sidelines. It’s the laughs shared with friends in the wash rack, the silly dances to blaring speakers, and the countless memories that make the journey unforgettable. The lessons learned and the bonds created beyond the ring are what truly make showing livestock so much more than a banner on the wall.”
“My biggest piece of advice is to enjoy every second you get in the ring, because it goes by faster than you think. Along the way, make new friends, talk to new people, and never forget where you came from. Every one of us showing livestock was once brand new to it — so help others, be kind, and lift each other up.”
“Don’t let yourself get caught up in the motions or believe that a banner is the sole purpose of showing livestock. Instead, strive to be a role model and commit everything you do to the Lord. And when things get hard-Because they will-turn to Him, keep pushing, and trust that the journey is worth it-Because it is.”
