Landrie and Maebre Sutton: Doing It Together

Landrie and Maebre Sutton are from Covington, IN. They were born and raised in Nebraska where they began showing sheep and created a passion for the industry. They then moved to Indiana three years ago. Where they have competed ever since.

“Hi! We are from Covington, Indiana. We have lived here for 3 years before we previously lived in Gretna, Nebraska.”

Landrie started her show journey at age seven. She started with showing sheep and has continued ever since. “My parents encouraged me to show. Our family has a long history of showing livestock and is actually how my parents met.”-Landrie

Maebre followed right in Landrie’s shoes. As she also started showing sheep when she was seven.” I have always watched and looked up to Landrie!”-Maebre

There has really never been a time that either of us ever questioned if we loved this industry. There might be tough days here and there, but we love the family and friends who have made such a big impact in our lives because of this industry! What is the biggest lesson you learned from showing?

“We both agree that one of the biggest lessons we have learned is to never give up!” It may sound “canned” but both Landrie and Maebre agree that through the long nights, difficult lambs, and barn fights Landrie and Maebre both have learned to “Never Give Up.”

“Might sound like a “canned” response, but we have both had sheep that might be more difficult to get shown or maybe take longer to look like they really belong in the show barn. Just never give up! You never know when that difficult sheep might decide they really do want to be a show sheep or when they just come together at the right time at the right show!” – Landrie

The night in the barn can sometimes not be fun and they may all end up mad. But;Landrie and Maebre’s family does it all together. “It’s not always pretty, but we have always done barn work, shows and everything in between as a family. Sometimes we have to divide and conquer, but we are so blessed by our immediate and extended family! They have made all of our success that much more memorable!”

Moving to Indiana from Nebraska was a change for the Suttons. They went from everything they knew, to a new place, bigger competition, and even had to endure an ideal barn situation. “Our barn situation was less than ideal. It was very small, and we call it the

“MicroBarn.”

We really had to be creative with how we worked and fed sheep. #IYKYK

Thankfully, as of a few months ago, we have a beautiful barn that we are all so excited about! Our parents often remind us that the “MicroBarn” is just a part of our story! In addition to that, just our move in general from Nebraska to Indiana was one of our biggest challenges. It is known across the country that the quality of livestock that Indiana has is second to none. We knew that we would have to step it up in every facet. From feeding, leg hair, and even showmanship. We have had to grind that much harder: It has been fun and rewarding!”

From chaos in the barn and in the house. The suttons have had to learn that they aren’t always going to get along. “The daily chaos is 100% what people don’t see! We are a lot as there are 5 kids in our family. Sometimes we yell, don’t get along and fight. But, at the end of the day, we can always throw a good barn dance party! We all figure it out and work together! We will always want nothing but the best for each other!”

Tough decisions come with anything you dedicate your life toward. The Suttons have their fair share of tough decisions. “ Sports or livestock?”

Landrie used to be a multi-sport girl. With track, basketball, and travel softball. However with livestock comes less time, less energy. “I have taken a huge step back in sports. I still play basketball and run track for my High School, but I used to play travel softball too.” Maebre also has had to make tough decisions too. As she enjoyed travel softball the time, weekends, and long drives were too much. “I used to play travel softball and AAU basketball. Now I just play AAU basketball, as well as volleyball, and run track for my school.”

“We would love to hang out with friends more and travel more as a family. It’s hard though when you have worked so hard at home to think about having someone else come take care of your livestock, like you do. We still make time to hang out with friends, but maybe not as often as we want sometimes, but we know this is a sacrifice that we have to make. Thankfully we have each other!”

This past year Landrie and Maebre got to share a special moment as they both had success at Reno. A moment and win that will stay with them forever. Not because of the banner, or the handshake. But because not only did Maebre have success but Landrie did too!

“Leaving the ring and hugging my Mom, sister, and Wyatt was so special! The phone calls with Dad while we were there, asking how the sheep look, and requesting photos and videos of them! Taking the

e-bikes that we won, on a spin down the sidewalks of Reno before we loaded up on the trailer!”The drive there with Landrie and Maebres Mom is what made the week truly special from the start. “Just being able to do this together with each other made it even more special!”

“We rolled right into Reno sheep as we got home from the National Western in January. With Reno being earlier this year, and not knowing if we were going to be able to make it all happen, we had to kick it into gear right away in January! We still had the MicroBarn, so some days it was absolutely freezing. It was far from an ideal situation, but it is part of our story! With having sheep on feed for shows after Reno and with some meetings that our Dad had for work, we made it a “Girls Trip.” The drive out to California to lay over for a few days before we went into Reno was beautiful! We weren’t sure how the sheep would handle the travel, altitude changes, and everything else. We did great, they did great, and Wyatt finally made his flight. We got to meet some amazing new friends along the way! Dad was able to watch the Ewe Grand Drive while on an airplane traveling for work, our siblings watched The Show from the living-room with our grandparents, and our Pappaw flew to Reno to watch us show and help Mom with the drive back! It was a journey, for sure! But, we would do it all over again!”

“We really don’t feel like it has still sunk in! We can’t even describe the feeling! Special doesn’t even seem like the right way to describe it! It was simply incredible!”

Even though Reno was a big win for the sisters. It hasn’t been the most memorable win.. “Having the Champion Overall Ewe at The Show Reno and being Reserve Overall Ewe at the 2025 NAILE are both very memorable. Both of these wins are bucket – list wins for me!”

“Being Reserve Overall Market Lamb at Reno is by far my favorite win so far!”

“Always hand walked, braced, and always showed so well for me! He was a tough one to see go! That will always be a special show for me!”

The people have definitely made the journey one of a kind for Landrie and Maebre. “We have had so many people who have cheered us on through the years! Of course our parents and our family, our grandparents and so many other friends who have become family. Wyatt Acey has truly helped push us to the next level. His patience, knowledge, and humor helps keep us grinding each day. Wyatt’s belief in us and our abilities means so much to our entire family!”
