“I’m Laney Parker and I’m from red bluff California. I started showing sheep when I was nine.”. Laney has continued to show sheep even after her years of fair were over so I asked her what has been your highlight.
“The highlight for me was probably when I won the points for being the top showman in the state of California simply because showmanship is a huge thing in my barn.”
“As I continue in this industry I want to continue to grow my breeding program and help the young generation. “
I asked Laney how she wants to impact the show world.
“I want to affect the show industry by setting a standard of integrity, education, and encouragement. Both in the show ring and behind the scenes.”
What’s an issue in the show world?
“One issue I see in the show world is the growing focus on winning over learning and animal care. Too often the emphasis shifts towards chasing banners instead of developing true showmanship skills and doing what’s best for the animals. Winning is great but it shouldn’t come at the cost of ethical practice or losing sight of why we show in the first place.”
As we all know the best advice comes last.
“ My biggest piece of advice would be to stay humble, stay teachable and work hard.”
