Everyone wants to “50” every class in a contest, but the truth is that success comes from low-drop evaluation.
Because livestock judging is subjective, you’re going to drop points somewhere. The key is minimizing those losses.
Great judges don’t focus on being perfect in every class—they focus on covering their bases and identifying the biggest, most influential factors within the class dynamic.
Don’t lose points on simple mistakes. Be willing to take a 2- or 3-point cut when necessary and make those points back in the reasons room. Keep your evaluation simple, logical, and straightforward.
“Consistency wins contests far more often than chasing perfection.”
